Oasis campers learned how to rock and roll with Everybody Rocks, a music education program which teaches the basic components of music-making in a group setting using the excitement and creativity of rock and roll. These rock music lessons are just one example of the exciting mix of field trips, sports, and creative learning offered to Oasis camp attendees this summer season.
"My girls had the time of their lives at camp this summer. Every day is a new adventure, filled with old and new friends and new experiences. It's a wonderful place to send the kids and we know they are learning a lot, as well as having a great time,” says Evanston’s Missy Hedges.
Camp founders, Brooke and James Schamber, who are both trained professionals in education and child and family services, have succeeded in creating the ideal summer camp experience. A second grade teacher at Evanston’s Orrington School, James is an experienced teacher and athletic coach. Brooke, a school psychologist at Waukegan High School, has extensive experience in child and adolescent development, education, and family models.
Recent field trips have included excursions to Glencoe Beach, Brookfield Zoo, Green Meadows Farm, Action Territory, Harry Potter movie, Lake County Fair, and the Museum of Science and Industry. Special activities have included science instruction, pet awareness education, cooking classes, and dancing and juggling performances.
Oasis Camp, the North Shore’s premier camp for children ages 5 to 12, offers weekly schedules to satisfy creative, active, and adventurous campers — boys and girls alike. Located in Winnetka, at 180 Ridge Avenue, camp sessions run through August 12.
