The Winnetka Community Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago will offer their final program of the 2010-2011 programming year with a visit May 11 to the Baha’i House of Worship. Led by Candace Hill, author of the Images of America series’ book, Baha’i Temple, the group will learn about the symbols, history, and people involved in the site’s construction and functions. The morning program will take place at the temple at 100 Linden Ave. Advance reservations are required by calling Patty Becker at 847 835 0642 or emailing patty60261@aol.com.

The Winnetka Community Associates is an affiliate group of the Art Institute of Chicago devoted to enhancing its members’ appreciation of the visual arts. Membership costs $15/year in addition to an Art Institute membership. A schedule of 2011-2012 events will be available in late August. To join the group or request the brochure detailing upcoming events, contact Melanie at mshauck@comcast.net or 847 446 3109.

In April the group visited the Art Institute and Museum of Contemporary Art to learn the distinctions between “modern” and “contemporary” art. This included a guided tour of Wilmette artist Jim Nutt’s solo exhibition “Coming into Character” at the MCA. The group also conducted sold-out walking tours of Chicago’s North Side mansions, a visit to Columbia College and the Newberry Library to learn about Artist’s Books, and a lecture series presenting a global view of the Middle Ages.

“It’s a great opportunity to tap into the fabulous art and architecture that we have available to us in Chicago and the suburbs. And even though we’ve been around for more than 50 years, we are a bit of a secret,” says Associates' President Cissy Crawford of Kenilworth.
