North Shore Legislators To Address the State’s Fiscal Crisis

NORTHFIELD, Ill. – As the Illinois state government copes with one of the worst budget deficits in the nation, three North Shore Leagues of Women Voters have scheduled a forum where citizens will have an opportunity to express their views and ask questions of three state representatives about the state of the Illinois budget crisis.
“We believe it is incumbent upon citizens to take the time to meet with their state representatives about their concerns and priorities for state government. And we at the League of Women Voters believe it is our mission to help facilitate a regular conversation,” said Jane Goldenberg, acting co-president of the Winnetka-Northfield-Kenilworth League.
The forum, titled, Meet Your State Legislators: Learn their views on the Illinois Fiscal Crisis, will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13 at New Trier High School, Northfield Campus, Board Room C234. The forum is sponsored by the Leagues of Women Voters of Glencoe, Wilmette and Winnetka-Northfield-Kenilworth.
State Reps. Daniel Biss (17th), Robyn Gabel (18th) and Karen May (58th) will address various strategies for balancing the budget, how the recent increase in state taxes will impact the deficit and what other actions may be necessary to get state finances in order. They will also address the impact of the state’s fiscal crisis on local community organizations and local governments.
Biss, Gabel and May represent all or part of the following communities: Bannockburn, Deerfield, Evanston, Glencoe, Glenview, Highland Park, Highwood, Kenilworth, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Morton Grove, Northbrook, Northfield, Riverwoods, Skokie, Wilmette and Winnetka.
The League is a non-partisan political organization, which strives to educate, inform, encourage and empower people to become involved, knowing that one person and one organization can make a difference.
