It was a rainy Saturday on September 18, but the Boy Scouts held their car wash anyway. The car wash was planned as a fund raiser for John Gaschler’s Eagle Project. He needed to raise $500 to cover the cost of materials and supplies for his upcoming project to paint a giant map of the United States on the Crow Island Elementary School playground blacktop.
“It was just amazing to watch,” said John’s dad Gregory. “The cars just kept coming, even in the rain.” John had ten volunteers from his Troop 18 Boy Scout troop in Winnetka on hand to wash the cars in his scoutmasters driveway. “The boys worked really hard, and they had a great time doing it.”
John raised $523.00 in three hours time. He and members of his troop plan to paint the map on the playground, weather permitting, on October 2. “I’m excited that it went so well and can’t wait to finish the project,” said John. The Eagle Scout badge is the highest honor a boy scout can earn. He must complete the requirements for the badge before his eighteenth birthday.
