SRS Repeat as Basketball Champions
Sunset Ridge Repeats and Claims 8th Grade Boys Championship!
After winning the school’s first title in 25 years in 2011, the Sunset Ridge 8th grade boys did it again. They grabbed the 8th grade grammar school championship by defeating Christian Heritage Academy (CHA) with a score of 59-40, finishing the season with a record of 14-.1 That one loss was the only dropped game in their two year history in the league.
From CHA, superstar Chris Harris from CHA, averaging over 30 points a game this year in the regular season, went up against a well disciplined team from Sunset Ridge, most of whom had been playing together for years.
At the start, it was the barrage of three point shots from Dylan McGuire and Tino Malnati that got the SRS Eagles going. A stifling “triangle and two defense” kept Harris from taking over the game. In the second half Joe Lewis took advantage of a tired CHA defense and scored in the paint to seal the win for the Sunset Ridge squad. Multiple Eagles contributed in the scoring column. The other members on the roster are; Lucas Bartzis, Jack Carini, Dillon Gorham, Griffin Gourguechon, Dimitri Kondelis, Justin Koress, Sam Neustadt, and Rudy Neustadt. The Eagles were led by manager Patrick Jeon and coaches Steve Timko and Rick Walters.
