Winnetka, Feb. 6-13: Vehicle left unlocked and running stolen, and more

The following incidents were taken from Winnetka Police Department reports between Feb. 6-13.

BURGLARY TO BUSINESS

A 40-foot section of copper wire, worth an estimated $50, was reported stolen from the basement of a business in the 1000 block of Gage Street at 11:38 a.m. Feb. 6. The burglary, discovered by an AT&T repairman, likely took place after Feb. 4.

VEHICLE THEFT

An unlocked vehicle left running in the 500 block of Chestnut Avenue at 6 a.m. Feb. 12 was reported stolen. The owner returned to the vehicle 10 minutes later and discovered it missing. The vehicle was recovered in a residential neighborhood in Niles at 12:22 a.m. Feb. 13. Winnetka police reported a person was taken into custody by Niles police, but a Niles police spokesman declined to comment and said no charges had been filed as of 11 a.m. Feb. 14.

THEFT

A male juvenile, whose age and hometown were not released, was charged with theft at 2:40 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Winnetka Police Department, 410 Green Bay Road. The charges stemmed from an investigation into a Feb. 2 bicycle theft at New Trier High School, 385 Winnetka Ave.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Two tires of a vehicle parked in the 500 block of Birch Street were punctured sometime during the evening hours of Feb. 6. The damage was estimated at $400.

DUI

A 23-year-old Chicago woman was arrested at 2:16 a.m. Feb. 9 near the corner of Hibbard Road and Willow Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper parking on the roadway after a traffic stop.

DRUGS

A 23-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 3:20 a.m. Feb. 12 in the 1200 block of Whitebridge hill Road and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area.

TRAFFIC

A 37-year-old Chicago woman was arrested at 4:16 p.m. Feb. 8 in the 600 block of Sheridan Road and charged with driving without a license and cited for speeding.
