Winnetka, Jan. 30-Feb. 5: Checks stolen, altered and cashed totaling $12K, and more

The following incidents were taken from Winnetka Police Department reports between Jan. 30-Feb. 5.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident reported Feb. 2 that four unauthorized out-of-state purchases, totaling $5,283.47, were made using a Macy’s credit card on Jan. 4.

A resident reported Jan. 30 that personal checks may have been stolen from outgoing mail in the first block of Warwick Road on Dec. 19. The checks were altered and fraudulently cashed, totaling $12,610.42.

THEFT

An unlocked $150 bicycle was reported stolen from outside New Trier High School, 385 Winnetka Ave., at 11:51 a.m. Feb. 4. The theft took place between 8 a.m. and 3:25 p.m. Feb. 2.

An Apple iPhone, movie theater gift cards, two Pace bus passes and a black hooded sweatshirt were reported stolen from a locker in the boy’s locker room at New Trier High School, 385 Winnetka Ave., at 6:59 a.m. Feb. 1. The loss was estimated at $481.

TRAFFIC

A 34-year-old Naperville man was arrested at 8 p.m. Feb. 2 and charged with driving without a license and cited with driving with expired registration and negligent driving after police responded to an accident at Skokie Lagoons, in the 600 block of Forestway Drive.

A 44-year-old Skokie woman was arrested at 3:08 p.m. Feb. 2 in the 300 block of Green Bay Road and charged with driving without a license and cited with speeding following a traffic stop.
