Campers from Oasis Summer Day Camp enjoyed an exciting performance by Menz Dance Troupe last week. The all-male group, from New Trier High School, taught campers dance moves and the lesson that dancing is cool for both boys and girls.

Camp founders, Brooke and James Schamber, who are both trained professionals in education and child and family services, have succeeded in creating the ideal summer camp experience offering an exciting mix of field trips, sports, and creative learning. Recent field trips have included Glencoe Beach, Brookfield Zoo, Green Meadows Farm, Action Territory, and the Museum of Science and Industry. Special activities have included Mad Science instruction, pet awareness education, and dancing and juggling performances.

Oasis Camp, the North Shore’s premier camp for children ages 5 to 12, offers weekly schedules to satisfy creative, active, and adventurous campers — boys and girls alike. Located in Winnetka, at 180 Ridge Avenue, camp sessions run through August 12.

Field trips include visits to museums, zoos, water parks, pools, beaches, county fairs, roller skating parks, baseball games, farms, arcades, and sports parks. Activities include cooking and sailing lessons, sports tournaments, group folly performances, science instruction, watermelon-spitting and costume competitions, and water wars. The camp also promotes literacy year-round with an incentive-based reading program to help campers develop, strengthen, and enjoy reading.

Sally Mabadi of Evanston says, "We've had wonderful summers at Oasis thanks to their very talented counselors and fun-filled schedule of activities. I have one child who loves nothing more than hanging out at home, preferably watching Star Wars, and another who wants every minute of his day filled with activities. Amazingly, they both love Oasis.”
