Yom HaShoah Flag Project

Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah students participate in Yom HaShoah Flag Project

On May 1st, in observance of Yom HaShoah (the day of the Holocaust), a symbolic memorial
took place when all the Academy students at Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah – Wilmette participated
in a Yom HaShoah Flag Project. 6000 small yellow flags were planted on the synagogue's
lawn adjacent to the Edens Expressway, each flag representing 1,000 Jews killed during the
Holocaust. Yellow was the color of the badges forced upon the Jews by the Nazis.
The vision and impact of these flags is a sad reminder of the six million that perished.
