PRESS RELEASE
Purim is the most festive of Jewish holidays. It commemorates a day on which the Jewish people were saved from their
oppressors and is recounted in the Megillah, the scroll of the story of Esther. This year the holiday was celebrated with great
merriment on March 19 and 20th at Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah – Wilmette.
Saturday evening after the Megillah reading, a Purim shpiel (Purim play) was performed by congregants. On Sunday morning,
the 7th grade Academy students under the guidance of their teacher Judy Grossbard, performed a Purim story using beautiful
papier mache puppets hand made by the children.
This was followed by a fun-filled carnival that was open to the entire community. Many children and adults in attendance wore
costumes which have become a custom for this holiday.
