Local business owners and entrepreneurs attended a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, September 20, 2010 in Kenilworth, Illinois to congratulate Home Care Assistance of Greater Chicago on the success of their business in the heart of the North Shore community.

Home Care Assistance provides hourly and live-in services to seniors living at home, allowing individuals to stay safely and happily in their community while giving family members respite and peace of mind. Caregivers utilize a holistic approach, encouraging independence and engaging clients in physical, mental and social activities, in addition to lending a hand with meal preparation, personal hygiene, bathing, medication reminders, transportation and more.

During the ribbon cutting ceremony, Margalit Tocher, President of Home Care Assistance of Greater Chicago, discussed two main attributes that distinguish Home Care Assistance from other home care agencies.  First is the unique Quality of Life focus via their proprietary Balanced Care Methodprogram which is based on the population in Okinawa, Japan.  Individuals in Okinawa embody “healthy longevity,” living longer and in a healthier manner than anyone else in the world. Inspired by this culture, The Balanced Care Method promotes excellent physical health, mental awareness and inner calm.  Every Home Care Assistance caregiver is trained in the Balanced Care Method so that they can effectively implement the Quality of Life focus with all clients, no matter what their physical and mental condition may be.

Second, Tocher discussed the highly selective screening process they use for hiring caregivers.  Home Care Assistance’s Chicago Staffing Manager, Maureen Mueller, accepts approximately one out of every thirty-five caregiver applicants.  Background checks, reference checks and work authorizations are all completed along with the proprietary Caregiver Personality Screening. The screening is used to verify applicants’ suitability for the care-giving career by assessing traits that include honesty, kindness and conscientiousness.    Ms. Mueller approaches each client as if he or she were her own parent and spends time matching the client with the best caregiver for their needs and personality.

Tocher, Mueller and Home Care Assistance partners Jordan Feiger, Norberto Kogan and Sandy Ober, were all present for the official cutting of the ribbon. At the ceremony, Wilmette Chamber President, Patrick McFadden along with Fred Steingraber, Kenilworth Village President, congratulated and thanked Home Care Assistance for contributing to the local business area and for being an asset to the community.
