The following incidents were taken from Wilmette Police Department reports on Feb. 13-19.
DOMESTIC BATTERY
A 31-year-old Downers Grove man was arrested at noon Feb. 17 in the 1600 block of Sheridan Road and charged with domestic battery after he allegedly kicked a woman during an argument.
HOME BURGLARY
Flatware, jewelry and cash were reported stolen from a home in the 900 block of Ashland Avenue. The burglary likely took place between noon Feb. 17 and 9:52 p.m. Feb. 19. The value of the loss was not estimated.
About 100 pieces of jewelry, worth an estimated $40,000, were reported stolen Feb. 18 from a home in the 500 block of Washington Avenue after someone pried open a first-floor window. The burglary likely took place between 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. The family dog was home during the event and was not injured.
AUTO BURGLARY
A small case of DVDs, worth $200, was removed from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 100 block of Dupee Place sometime between 9 p.m. Feb. 17 and 7:49 a.m. Feb. 18.
A ski pole and a gasoline gift card were removed from an unlocked vehicle parked overnight in the 200 block of Dupee Place at 5:56 a.m. Feb. 18. The items were found in the street near the vehicle, and nothing else appeared to be stolen.
A laptop computer, value not provided, was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 300 block of Gregory Avenue sometime between 11 p.m. Feb. 17 and 9:30 a.m. Feb. 18.
Various items were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked overnight in the 900 block of 12th Street at 9 a.m. Feb. 18.
Items were reported stolen from two unlocked vehicles parked overnight in the 1000 block of 11th Street at 9 a.m. Feb. 18.
THEFT
A 66-year-old Chicago woman was arrested at 1:45 p.m. Feb. 19 at Carson Pirie Scott, 3200 Lake Ave., and cited with violating the local theft ordinance after she allegedly tried to leave the store with unpurchased items in her purse.
A Chicago woman, whose age was not provided, was arrested Feb. 17 after turning herself in to Wilmette police, 910 Ridge Road, and charged with theft and forgery. She allegedly stole several checks from her employer between Nov. 4 and Feb. 6 before forging the employer’s name in order to cash them. The amount of the checks was not disclosed.
An undisclosed amount of cash and gift cards were reported stolen Feb. 13 from a home in the 2000 block of Birchwood Avenue. The theft could have taken place anytime after Oct. 12.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
Bushes and exterior bricks on a home in the 200 block of Thelin Court were reported damaged Feb. 14. The resident had been out of town for several weeks, and the damage was likely caused between Nov. 25 and Jan. 25. It was not immediately apparent what caused the damage.
FRAUD
A Wilmette woman reported Feb. 19 that she was defrauded out of $4,500 after answering an online advertisement seeking “secret/mystery” shoppers. She received two packages, containing what appeared to be money orders, and was instructed to deposit them, keep a portion as a commission, then spend a certain amount at a local Walmart and Western Union in order to make observations about customer service before wiring the rest to a woman in the Philippines.
DRUGS
A 21-year-old Arlington Heights man was arrested at 9:41 p.m. Feb. 13 in the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue and cited with violating the local ordinance for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The arrest was subsequent to a traffic stop.
