Wilmette, Jan. 30-Feb. 2: Upwards of $40,000 in jewelry stolen in burglary, and more

The following incidents were taken from Wilmette Police Department reports on Jan. 30-Feb. 2.

HOME BURGLARY

Between $30,000 and $40,000 in jewelry was reported stolen from an unlocked residence in the 800 block of Greenleaf Avenue on Feb. 1. The home had been left unlocked between 9:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., but it wasn’t until 9:30 p.m. that the residents discovered the burglary. The jewelry was taken from an upstairs bedroom, as well as two Chanel bags, estimated at $2,000 each.

THEFT

A red leather recliner, left on the front porch of a home in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road, was reported stolen Feb. 1. The chair was stolen sometime between 9 p.m. Jan. 30 and 7 a.m. Jan. 31.

A woman reported Jan. 31 that her wallet and keys were taken from a purse which was hanging from the back of her chair as she dined at Panera Bread, 1199 Wilmette Ave.

DUI

A 23-year-old Wilmette man was arrested at 12:14 a.m. Feb. 3 in the 300 block of Ridge Road and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop.

A 28-year-old Skokie man was arrested at 9:12 p.m. Jan. 31 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after his vehicle drove over the sidewalk and hit a tree in the 600 block of Sheridan Road. He was taken to a local hospital, where his blood-alcohol level was measured at .208. Witnesses reported the man’s vehicle passing other cars in the center lane and speeding before the crash. The man was also charged with damage to village property.

ALCOHOL POSSESSION

Two men, an 18-year-old from Riverside, Conn. and a 19-year-old from Ada, Mich., were arrested at 8:44 p.m. Feb. 2 at Foremost Liquor, 275 Green Bay Road, and charged with possession of alcohol by a minor after they allegedly used a fake ID to make a purchase.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A resident reported Jan. 30 that she received two offensive and insulting text messages.

TRAFFIC

A 19-year-old Harvard, Ill. man was arrested at 11:44 a.m. Jan. 31 in the 1900 block of Lake Avenue and charged with driving without a license after a traffic stop.
