On Thursday, October 7th, Knit Happens (http://www.knithappensyarnsalon.com), located at 794 S. Buffalo Grove Road, in Buffalo Grove, hosted a charity night to benefit Halos of Hope. Connie Grundschok, owner, opened her doors to local knitters and crocheters, to encourage charity cap crafting. Pamela Haschke, President & Founder of Halos, shared the history of the charity, and talked about how a simple handcrafted hat can make a difference to comfort a patient during cancer treatment.
A Knit Happens’ raffle during the event raised $140 for Halos of Hope. “As a 100% volunteer organization, we use donations to offset our shipping and handling costs to send hats to centers across the country,” said Ms. Haschke. “We thank you so much.”
Hats for Halos of Hope can be dropped off during store hours. Purchase the first skein of yarn to make a hat, turn the hat into Knit Happens, and Connie offers another skein to replace it. For the remainder of 2010, Knit Happens will continue to raise awareness and funds as patrons register for the “Better Letter”, an online newsletter from MakeItBetter.net. Sign up for the “Better Letter” at Knit Happens, and $5.00 for each registration will be donated to Halos of Hope.
Knit Happens is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10 – 4, and Thursday evenings from 6-9. Please call store at 847-947-8107 or check website for Sunday store hours.
