Clapham Conversations to Feature Author and Documentary Producer Andy Crouch–Series Focuses on Cultural Influence and Issues

Andy Crouch, author of Culture Making: Recovering Our Creative Calling, and executive producer of the documentary film, Where Faith and Culture Meet, is the featured speaker for the spring Clapham Conversations to be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 27 at College Church in Wheaton. Established to provide a forum for addressing cultural influences and issues facing society, all Clapham Conversations are open to Clapham School parents as well as members of the community. This new speaker series seeks to bring in authors and/or speakers who will provide an opportunity for parents and the community at large to engage in the kind of ideas that shape the unique model of a school like Clapham a classical and Christian school.

We are delighted to have Andy Crouch come to Wheaton as part of our Clapham Conversations speaker series said Doug Reynolds, Head of School. Our vision is to prepare students for a life of service to Christ, and Andys book Culture Making speaks beautifully to how Christians need to make a positive contribution to shaping culture.

Crouch will discuss some of the responsibilities that Christians have today to create and influence culture — ideas that come from his book, which was the 2009 winner of Christianity Todays Book Award for Christianity and Culture.

Of culture Crouch says, The first responsibility of culture makers is not to make something new but to become fluent in the cultural tradition to which we are responsible. Before we can be culture makers, we must be culture keepers.

Clapham Conversations will be held at College Church, 332 E. Seminary St. in Wheaton. Parking is available.

We look forward to hearing what Andy Crouch has to say to us, and to welcoming others from the community as well said Reynolds.
