Five seventh grade students from St. John Lutheran School in Wheaton, IL will be participating in the State Science Fair to be held on the campus of University of Illinios  at  Champaign Urbana on May 7-8, 2010.

The fair, sponsored by the Illinois Junior Academy of Science, is open to students in grades 7-12 from both public and private schools.  To be invited to the State Fair, a student’s project must first be judged outstanding at the local level.  If then selected for the Regional Fair, students must do additional work on their project and prepare a 10 minute speech to present before the Regional Fair judges. St. John Lutheran School sent 13 students to compete with approximately 600 other students in Region 9 (South Suburban) for the chance to advance to the State Science Fair.  Only the highest scoring projects receive an invitation to State.

Pictured with their project boards are Alex Kerr, Sarah Mueller, Paul Christian, Amy Nelson and Zach Saegesser.  Paul Christian won a special award from the U.S. Navy for his project entitled, “The Bigger They are, The Slower They Fall”.
