Wheaton Warrenville South High School Coaches and Staff Take on the Windy City Warriors
Coaches, teachers, and staff from Wheaton Warrenville South High School (WWS) will take on the Windy City Warriors in an exhibition game Friday, January 20, 4:30-5:15pm. The novice pick-up team from WWS will be getting into chairs to play against the 6-time Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Wheelchair Basketball Championship team to raise awareness and funds for the Warriors.
Many of the WWS coaches, teachers, and staff have never played basketball in a wheelchair before; some have actually had the chance to play last year for the first time.
The Warriors lineup includes WWS senior Erik Todd. Todd has been a key member of the Warriors for several years. As a Warrior, Todd has several IHSA wheelchair basketball championship titles to brag about. As for next year, Todd has committed to play for the University of Missouri.
Though it seems like a lopsided match-up, the WWS team may have a slight advantage. Fans! Fans will actually be able to tip the score in favor of their favorite team by purchasing additional points.
The Warriors have the expertise and speed on the court, but the game will ultimately come down to fan support!

JV and Varsity games to follow.
Carl Anderson, also a senior and a friend of Todd, has always heard Todd talk about his experience on the Warriors and wanted to lend his support. Anderson coordinated the match-up last year as a result of a class assignment and wants to continue to lend his support again this year. Anderson has worked with the school, athletic department and the Warriors to coordinate this special event.
Warriors coach Kevin Hosea is excited about the support Todd and the Warriors are getting form Anderson and Wheaton Warrenville South High School. “We are hoping to raise awareness about the growing adapted sports field and have some fun. Our teams travel all over the Midwest to compete throughout the season. Any donations collected will go to offset travel and tournament expenses,” says Hosea.

Sponsored by Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA), the Windy City Warriors wheelchair basketball team is the premier wheelchair basketball team in the state. Practices are held at Ackerman Sports & Fitness (Glen Ellyn) every Saturday 2-5pm. The Warriors field two wheelchair basketball teams: varsity and junior varsity divisions.
Wheelchair basketball is available for anyone with a permanent lower extremity disability; it doesn't require a wheelchair to get around. Participants with hip, knee or any other lower body disability are eligible for wheelchair basketball. Some people don't even know they're eligible.
WDSRA provides recreation for people with physical disabilities from the grass roots level to the elite athletes preparing for college and the Paralympics.
WDSRA is a nationally acclaimed, not-for-profit organization and a cooperative extension of nine park districts including Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Roselle, Warrenville, West Chicago, Wheaton, and Winfield.
