The Cooper’s hawk looking for a meal at Wheaton’s Cosley Zoo won’t find small ducks on the menu these days.

After noticing the hawk perched above the zoo’s duck pond last month, zookeepers moved 11 small ducks into the safety of an enclosed aviary with makeshift ponds.

The small ducks will stay in their temporary quarters until the spring when other birds that migrated south for the winter fly back north into the area and provide the hawk with a more substantial snack, zoo director Sue Wahlgren said.
