Dist. 87 superintendent feeling ‘pretty good’

Glenbard District 87 Superintendent Mike Meissen is doing well, but remained hospitalized Tuesday after he became ill during a Monday night school board meeting.

“I’m feeling pretty good and just taking a lot of precautionary tests,” Meissen said from his hospital room at Central DuPage Hospital Tuesday afternoon.

He is still not sure what happened, but is eager to return to work.

Around 9:30 p.m. Monday, Meissen was taken away in an ambulance. One school board member said paramedics were called after Meissen felt faint.

The roughly three-hour meeting was an annual session focusing on the high school district’s strategic goals.

Meissen was sitting in a chair in the lobby of the district’s administration building with a water bottle on his head shortly before emergency crews arrived.

District spokeswoman Peg Mannion also said Meissen is recovering well, but no details will be released about his health.

“He is doing very well after falling ill last night,” she said Tuesday.
