Westmont resident Galen Ramsey will be designing the properties and sound for Amelia Barrett’s staging of the two character play “Tuesdays with Morrie,” produced by the Buffalo Theatre Ensemble at the MAC at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn, Ill. Based on the 1997 best-selling book, the play chronicles a former student’s weekly visits to Morrie Schwartz, played by BTE ensemble member Michael Sassone, an eccentric Brandeis University sociology professor ailing from Lou Gehrig’s disease. Chicagoan Carl Lindberg is featured in the role of journalist Mitch Albom, Morrie’s former student.
Ramsey has had a hand in countless productions at the McAninch Arts Center (The MAC) at College of DuPage. As property master at the College of DuPage, Ramsey designs and builds properties, furniture, hand props, and set dressing for BTE, DuPage Opera Theatre, and COD student productions. In addition to properties, he also designs scenery, sound or music, and video for various productions at the MAC. His work was most recently seen in BTE’s production of “Moon Over Buffalo,” for which he designed the sound and properties. Outside of his work as a designer, Ramsey teaches the Stage Management course at COD and mentors student stage managers.
“Tuesdays with Morrie” opens May 4 and runs through May 27, with a May 3 preview at 8 p.m. Performances of the 80-minute play are Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 to $33. $2 discounts are available for non-COD students and seniors age 60 and over.
