Throughout this year the Village has been working with the RTA and consultants, Teska Associates, Inc. to compile a long term redevelopment plan for the Village. The goal of the Redevelopment Plan is to enhance our unique and successful downtown while creating a vision to guide future redevelopment. The process of compiling information for the Plan includes obtaining input from members of our community as well as businesses owners/developers who may be interested in investing in the Western Springs commercial properties.

As part of this process, the Village, with the assistance of Teska Associates, Inc. hosted a forum to obtain input from members of the development community. The highlights of the Downtown Redevelopment Plan were shared and Village staff and Board Members were available to discuss feedback on the Plan as well as possible funding options that may be considered in the future.

To gather information and build consensus among community members, various events have been held during the year in the Village. One issue which has been discussed is the fact that Western Springs remains to be considered a favorable market compared to other communities of similar size. The strong base of residents and business owners who are committed to their town combined with the convenience of the commuter rail helps the Village remain on the radar of developers and business owners as they work to identify potential locations as they investigate potential sites.
