Art Works 2011
Art Works was an exciting indoor event that showcased vwasual and performing artwasts from Chicago and the Western Suburbs. Now in its third year, Art Works returned with a new array of tantalizing sights and sounds on Sunday, November 13 at a new venue, Hubble Middle School, located at 3S600 Herrick Rd. The Warrenville Arts Council was pleased once again to present this community event that included adult amateurs and professionals as well as faculty and students from public and private schools. The show ran from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and was free to students and seniors. Admission for adults 18 and over was only $5.00; students and seniors over 65 were free. Refreshments were available for purchase from the Hubble PTA throughout the day. A Silent Auction was offered that showcased unique pieces from exhibiting artists and local vendors.
Visual artists in the gymnasium presented a variety of media including photography, ceramics, fused glass, painting, drawing, and mixed media at a wide range of prices. Local artists returning to Art Works this year include Rocky Falco and Owen O’Reilly, who work in ceramics; Don Brown, Maurice Wewaser and Jean Roe delighted visitors again with their unique photography and Sandy McLain featured her colorful fused glass. Another familiar local painter was Joe Urso. Robert Hogan joined us again from Chicago with painting and drawing that featured his work in pointillism. New artists from Warrenville included photographers Donna Sizemore and Tim Perpich, along with Loretta Holt who works in mixed media, painting and drawing. We also welcomed Christian Prohaska, a photographer from Westchester, IL who was new to Art Works this year.
Performing artists were featured regularly throughout the day providing entertainment in a variety of styles that pleased everyone. This year’s student performers included orchestras from Hubble Middle School and Four Winds Waldorf School; Hubble Middle School’s jazz band and two high school vocal soloists, Bethany Albright and Erin Feldman. Featured professional groups included the Cadence Music Ensemble, the Julie Ponce Trio and the McNulty Irish Dancers.
This event was sponsored in part by the City of Warrenville Hotel/Motel Tax Fund.
