Sam's Club Vernon Hills Donates More Than $500,000 to Area Charities

Sam’s Clubs in the Chicagoland area have donated $4.2 million in cash and in-kind gifts to local charity organizations during the past year. Five of these nonprofits were recognized at a celebratory breakfast held at Sam’s Club in Vernon Hills November l8. Charity representatives were presented with symbolic checks in support of their efforts for the betterment of the communities they serve.

Charities taking part in the breakfast were among several hundred Sam’s Club beneficiaries throughout the city and suburbs and which provide a snapshot of Sam’s Club giving impact. They include:

Jane Addams Hull House Association: A Sam’s Club $20,000 grant furthers Hull House’s work in 40 sites throughout Chicago as it provides services and schooling for underprivileged children and adults in supporting the mission of this 121-year-old organization.

Vernon Hills-based Helping from Heaven, The Lexi Kazian Foundation, non-profit foundation dedicated to improving the comfort and quality of life for children with special needs.

Greater Illinois Food Depository: A recipient of 2.2 million lbs. of food and related products to food banks, equivalent of 1.8 million meals.

Illinois Autism Society: Has received $60,000 in donations since 2007 to fulfill ASI’s mission to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by autism disorders.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation: The beneficiary of a $60,000 grant to help fund research seeking a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications.

Safe Haven Foundation: Supporting s families in crisis and facing homelessness; recipient of $96,000 from Sam’s Club in their role as first corporate sponsor to further work in these areas.

Sam’s Club is a member of the Walmart Foundation U.S. Giving Programs and has been recognized by the Chronicle of Philanthropy as the largest cash contributor in the nation to help address changing community needs.

It continues to support initiatives focused on education, workforce development, economic opportunity, environmental sustainability and health and wellness, all in ongoing efforts to create opportunities that improve the lives of individuals and families.
