Lake County officials are trying to find relatives of a woman who died this week following a hunger strike begun at the county jail last month, the county coroner said.
Lyvita Gomes, 52, whose most recent address was in Vernon Hills but who was from India, died about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vista Medical Center-East, said Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey. An autopsy showed she apparently died of malnutrition and she had no signs of trauma, Yancy said. There were no diseases detected that would have caused her death and preliminary toxicology tests showed no signs of drugs, he said.
Officials are trying to find relatives for Gomes, who had been hospitalized after beginning her hunger strike in mid-December.
