Man arrested after calling 911 for woman who took heroin, and more

The following items were taken from Tinley Park police reports Feb. 21

Cannabis

  • A 32-year-old Tinley Park man was arrested at his home in the 16600 block of Jean Lane at 5:50 a.m. Feb. 18 after police responded to a 911 call to find a 33-year-old woman unresponsive. The man said she had just shot heroin. She was revived and taken to Palos Community Hospital by paramedics. The man said the two started drinking at about 11 p.m. the night before and had also smoked crack and snorted heroin. Police found a glass pipe, a burnt spoon, five small plastic bags with white residue, a syringe and a small bag of cannabis. He was cited for unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of a hypodermic syringe and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

 Fraud

  • An 80-year-old Tinley Park woman was scammed into wiring $2,400 to the Dominican Republic at about 5:30 p.m. Feb. 20 after a man who said he was her grandson called and asked for the money. He said he had been in an accident in Chicago. The phone number linked to the call originated in Montreal.

Weapons Complaint

  • A 20-year-old Chicago Heights man was arrested for possession of cannabis and resisting a peace officer and a 19-year-old Flossmoor man was arrested for possession of a fictitious ID when their car was stopped in the 16700 block of South Harlem Avenue after a report of a possible drunk driver. The 20-year-old attempted to flee on foot and allegedly threw a bag of about six grams of cannabis while running. The 19-year-old had a fake driver’s license on him. Police also found a loaded handgun in the trunk that could not immediately be linked to either man.

 DUI

  • A 57-year-old Tinley Park man was arrested near 159th Street and 78th Avenue at 11:22 p.m. Feb. 18 for drunk driving after an officer stopped him for having a cracked windshield and driving with his turn signal on. The man also had two cans of beer on the floorboard of his vehicle. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and he refused to take a breath test. He was also cited for illegal transportation of alcohol, improper use of a turn signal and defective windshield.

Hit-and-Run

  • A 44-year-old Tinley Park man was arrested at the police department at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 after allegedly rear-ending a parked car on Marilyn Drive at about 9 p.m. Feb. 1 before leaving the scene. The car was pushed into a speed limit sign and into a grassy area near the road. After investigation, the driver reported to the police department on Feb. 15. He was cited for leaving the scene of an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to give aid, failure to report, damage to village property and operating an uninsured vehicle.

Retail Theft

  •  A woman was seen on surveillance equipment stealing over the counter cold medication valued at about $70 from Walt’s Food Store, 16039 S. Harlem Ave., at about 12:15 p.m. Feb. 18. She removed the medication from the boxes and placed the items in her purse before returning the empty boxes to the shelf.
  • A 33-year-old Park Forest woman was arrested at Kohl’s, 7500 W. 191st St., at 2:38 p.m. Feb. 19 for retail theft after allegedly stealing clothing, an ice cream scooper, a mattress cover, one Hallmark card and four bath towels from the store.
  • A 22-year-old Orland Park man was arrested in the 7800 block of 185th Street at 5:20 p.m. Feb. 20 for retail theft after allegedly placing items from Super Target in bags he took from the store. He fled through a fire exit and was seen running through a nearby field before being stopped by police.

 Theft

  • About $175 was found missing from a plastic bag kept hidden behind a bedroom dresser at an apartment at Hanover Place, in the 16851 S. Harlem Ave., between noon Feb. 8 and 8 a.m. Feb. 11. The resident said her housekeeper is the only other person who had been in her apartment. Another resident of Hanover Place said she believed the same housekeeper stole a credit card form her purse between Nov. 1 and Feb. 4.
  •  Five lottery tickets were stolen from a Shell gas station, 17101 Harlem Ave., between 9 a.m. Feb. 13 and 9 a.m. Feb. 14. Two of the tickets were redeemed as $20 winners at a gas station in Oak Forest. Police were able to review video surveillance from the Oak Forest location.
  •  A bottle of Adderall was stolen from a locked medicine cabinet in the nurse’s office at Prairieview Middle School, 8500 W. 175th St., between 4 p.m. Feb. 14 and 9 a.m. Feb. 15. A custodian was reportedly seen in the cabinet on Feb. 13.
  •  A cell phone was stolen from an unlocked gym locker at Andrew High School, 9001 W. 171st St., between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Feb. 15.
  • A customer at Speedway, 7201 W. 183rd St., took a cell phone from a cashier who was attempting to find its owner at about 1:30 p.m. Feb. 20. The phone’s actual owner later returned to retrieve the phone after forgetting it on the counter.

Burglary to Residence

  • Methadone medication pills were stolen from a medicine cabinet in an apartment in the 16700 block of South Gentry Lane between 3:40 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. Feb. 12. The resident said the pills have gone missing before.

 Burglary to Auto

  • A wallet was stolen from a vehicle parked at L.A. Fitness, 18400 Convention Center Dr., between noon and 3 p.m. Feb. 17.
  • A radio was stolen from a 2012 Dodge Ram parked at Bettenhausen Dodge Ram, 8355 159th St., between 8 a.m. Feb. 2 and 6 p.m. Feb. 18.

 Unsafe Equipment

  • A 22-year-old Tinley Park man was arrested near 173rd and Oconto Streets after an officer stopped him for driving a truck with an attached snowplow that was dragging and creating sparks. He was cited with driving unsafe equipment, driving with a revoked license and operating an uninsured vehicle.

Animal Control

  • A male coyote was euthanized after it was trapped near Brandau Court on Feb. 15. Residents in the area complained of two aggressive coyotes that had become a nuisance on Feb. 10 and traps were set up Feb. 14. The traps remain in the area because of the second coyote.

 Disorderly Conduct

  • A 25-year-old Tinley Park man was arrested outside Durbin’s, 1726 Oak Park Ave., at about 1:30 a.m. Feb. 19 for disorderly conduct after he was allegedly verbally combative with staff at the bar. He was asked to leave because of his high level of intoxication. He refused to leave the sidewalk outside of the bar when police arrived.

Criminal Defacement

  • Red and black spray paint was used to deface Longmeadow Park, 19715 W. Longmeadow Dr., between 11:30 a.m. Feb. 17 and 11 a.m. Feb. 20.
