Brew & Vine Festival returns for a second year Saturday

The Tinley Park Chamber of Commerce is hoping to duplicate the success of last year’s inaugural Brew & Vine Festival at the Tinley Park Convention Center Saturday.

Designed as a fundraiser for the chamber, that also showcases area businesses, the festival will feature tastings from 20 beer vendors, eight wine vendors and 14 food vendors from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“It’s unique because it is a tasting event for craft brewers, vintners and food, and usually you only get one,” said festival spokeswoman Dana Albano.

In its first year, the event drew about 2,000 visitors. Organizers had only expected 800. Albano attributes the success to a lack of similar events near Tinley Park.

“This is something the south suburbs can offer people that’s a little more of an upscale event,” she said. “And I think it’s something that’s new to this area.”

The large number of visitors made for crowded aisles and even a waiting list to get in last year, said Jeff Ficaro, chamber board member and past president.

Anticipating that the large crowd will return, Ficaro said the convention center’s recent expansion should offer plenty of space and help make improvements over last year’s event.

“Because we have double the space we can certainly accommodate a lot more people,” he said.

In addition to local businesses, other vendors from Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana will also attend the event, Albano said. Entertainment will be provided by Caravan and Chicago Kingsnakes.

Advance tickets can be purchased online for $20 or at the door for $25. Tickets are also available for a VIP event that begins at 2 p.m. Visitors must be 21 and provide photo ID.
