State’s capital construction program trickles into Tinley Park

The Village of Tinley Park is expecting a check for $253,278 to arrive any time from the state as part of the Illinois Jobs Now! program – the state’s $31 billion capital construction program signed into law by Gov. Pat Quinn in July 2009.

The funds are coming from $500 million in the program set aside for local capital projects. The money is expected to arrive sometime in mid-October as part of the first $100 million installment that is being doled out to municipalities based on motor fuel tax formulas.

The money is in addition to the normal motor fuel tax distributions from the state, and will likely be used to pay for annual road resurfacing needs in the village’s capital plan next year, said Mike Bettenhausen, trustee and chairman of the Finance and Economic Development Committee

“That’s going to give us the ability to reinvest in our infrastructure and our roads,” he said. “In today’s economy, a quarter-million dollars can go a long way.”
