The giant Buddha visible from First Street is the first clue that something unique awaits beyond the entrance of Wok n Fire. This new just a few weeks old Pan-Asian restaurant definitely has the WOW! factor infused in its contemporary dcor and intriguing cuisine. Its worth a visit just to see the aforementioned Buddha as well as a giant abacus that lights up, and the hip, oh-so-big-city bar with its fabulous lights set under the bar top to give it a special glow.
The menu is varied and specials keep it lively. The cuisine is a marriage of Malaysian, Chinese, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese and Japanese dishes, with an emphasis on sushi. The big, stylish sushi bar serves up sashimi, nigiri and an eclectic array of maki rolls, including the artfully sculpted caterpillar and crazy rolls.
The avocado tuna poke is a must start to dinner. Its pretty to look at and tastes amazing. And Wok n Fire does a great job with that original cold weather warmer, Tom Yum Goong soup. This satisfying bowl has just the right combination of shrimp, spices, fresh herbs and heat to beat any winter chill. Cooling things down, the seared peppered ahi tuna salad is a favorite for the wonderful sushi grade tuna and tasty dressing.
There are a number of wok-tossed entrees such as Mongolian Beef and Governors Chicken. A house specialty is the spicy Hong Kong Scallops. Noodle lovers will have a hard time choosing. You can go with the Pad Thai or Basil Chow Fun or the totally addictive chicken angel hair with curry sauce. Youve been warned. Its that good!
This is the third Wok n Fire. The original is in downtown Elmhurst and a second location is on Lake Street in Addison. With each successive restaurant the concept gets even more fabulous and eye-popping, while keeping the underpinnings of what has given Wok n Fire its success: wonderful fresh food made with creative ingredients that pleases the palate as well as the eye. Lucky St. Charles!
