Olympic cyclist to race in the North Shore

The Northbrook Cycle Committee recently announce that professional cyclist Colby Pearce will be competing in this years Roger Delanghe Trophy race set to take place Aug. 5 at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Northbrook.
The Roger Delanghe trophy is considered of the Stanley cup of Bicycle Track Racing. The winners name is engraved on the trophy and records are kept for all riders who participate in the race. Any finish in the top 25 of any race during the history earns a rider points in the overall cumulative rider performance
Colby has excelled on the road and on the track, where he won a number of national and international events around the globe. He is an outstanding endurance track racer, focusing recently on the Madison and has competed in a number of Six Days events. He also competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens finishing 14th in the points race.
The August 5 raceis a salute to Roger DeLanghe who made countless contributions to cycling over the years. Since emigration from Belgium years ago, DeLanghe worked tirelessly to promote bike racing throughout the region, culminating in the addition of the Quad Cities Criterium to the National Racing Calendar. For many years Roger manned the camera for the Ed Rudolph velodrome’s dramatic finishes
The 50 lap scratch race offers a $1500 purse and pays the top 25 finishing riders. Fans and riders, please join us on this special night. A full night of racing for various categories is planned. Spectating at the velodrome costs $2 per person and kids 12 and under are always free.
