Tortoise Returned to Lincolnwood Pet Shop

The Animal Store owner, Kenn Bearman, welcomes Spur back home.

In a world of bad news, every once in a while something good happens. Today, Spur, a 70-pound female tortoise, was returned safely to her home at The Animal Store in Lincolnwood. She was stolen during a break-in at the store in the early morning hours on Saturday. An anonymous tip led to her return early Sunday afternoon with only a few minor dings.

"She is a little freaked out, and has pulled into her shell," said store owner Kenn Bearman, "but we think she'll be fine." Bearman attributes her speedy and safe return to the efforts of the Chicago media, who put out her story and picture during news broadcasts and on the web.

"I would really like to thank the Chicago media. They did such a great job of supporting us and getting out the story, which ultimately brought her home," said Bearman. "Thanks to all the friends of The Animal Store, too, who shared our story on Facebook and Twitter. That's social networking at its best."
