The Skokie Health Department will offer influenza (“flu”) shots, by appointment only, to Skokie residents this fall.  Proof of Skokie residency will be required for all participants, and appointments will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.  You can make your own appointment on line at www.skokie.org and clicking the appointment link or by calling the Health Department at 847-933-8252 if you do not have computer access.

The clinics will be held on Tuesdays, September 28 and October 12 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and on Monday, October 4 from 3 to 7 p.m.  These are appointment only clinics.  No walk-ins will be taken.  Participants covered by Medicare Part B are asked to bring their card with them to the clinic.  This is necessary for the Health Department to receive reimbursement from Medicare.

The clinics will be held at the Oakton Community Center, 4701 Oakton Street.  This site is accessible to people with disabilities and is also accessible via the #97 and #54A buses.

Influenza is a respiratory illness that spreads easily from person to person each year. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Older people, young children, pregnant women, and people with certain chronic health conditions are at high risk for serious flu complications. The best way to prevent flu is by getting a flu shot each fall.

The best way to prevent seasonal flu is by getting a flu vaccination each fall and following these sensible precautions: wash your hands frequently, cover your coughs and sneezes and stay home from work or school if you are sick.
