A Chicago man who was involved in a head-on collision on McCormick Boulevard in Skokie recently allegedly had more than five times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood at the time of the crash, according to a police report.
Erdenebileg Dorj, 46, of the 3100 block of Springfield Avenue in Chicago, was driving an Audi north bound on McCormick Boulevard at Oakton Avenue at around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 when he allegedly crossed the double yellow lines and hit a north bound Toyota head-on, the report said.
A blood test allegedly registered Dorj’s blood-alcohol content at 0.425 percent, police said. The legal limit in Illinois is 0.08 percent. Erdenebileg was charged with DUI and multiple traffic offenses and is scheduled for a Feb. 24 hearing at the Skokie courthouse.
The driver of the Toyota told police that he saw the Audi headed directly toward his vehicle, that it was not slowing down and that he realized his only option was to slam on the brakes and brace for impact, which he did, the report said.
When officer at the accident scene asked Erdenebileg if he was hurt, he allegedly stared at the officer and repeatedly took his car key in and out of the ignition and spoke in a foreign language, the report said. The driver of the Toyota was not seriously injured.
Dorj was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston where he was allegedly combative, and had to be placed in restraints, said the report.
“If you drink and drive you’re going to be caught,” said Skokie police officer Tammy Jacobson. “Be smart. Be a responsible driver. Don’t endanger your own life or the lives of others.”
