The Schaumburg Boomers unveiled Coop, the new mascot for the independent baseball team, to a group of children, parents and elected officials Thursday afternoon.

Coop is named after the Boomer, a male prairie chicken common in Illinois. The team brought out the new mascot at the Schaumburg Park District Community Recreation Center, where he stayed to sign autographs for children. The Boomers start their inaugural season May 25.
