A Romeoville man initially charged with disorderly conduct Monday for using his cell phone to photograph an unaccompanied child at the library was charged with child pornography after police reportedly found sexual images of children on the device.
Ernest P. Garza, 46, of the 600 block of Driftwood Avenue, is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 22 for a preliminary hearing on the four-count charge formally filed Wednesday.
Police summoned to the White Oak Library on the 1400 block of West Normantown Road around 5:20 p.m. took Garza into custody for allegedly photographing the young girl, then reportedly discovered pornographic images of children on the phone.
Garza remained in the Will County Adult Detention Facility Thursday afternoon in lieu of $200,00 bail. Conditions of his bail include a prohibition against using Internet-related devices.
The charge is a Class 2 felony carrying a 3- to 7-year sentencing range in prison if convicted.
