PREP's Tyler Popp named MVP of Metro Central vs West HS hockey Allstar game

Top High School ice hockey players from the Central and West Divisions of the Chicago Metropolitan High School Hockey League met Sunday, January 22nd at West Meadows Ice Arena in Rolling Meadows, for the first of two All Star games featuring representatives selected from each of their member teams.

With 40 players chosen from each division, from a dozen plus high schools in each, a second game was necessary for all to participate.

In the first contest, the Metro Central Division scored early and often beating their Metro Western counterparts 7-2.

Tyler Popp, an Elk Grove HS senior forward from the combined Prospect/Rolling Meadows/Elk Grove/Palatine (PREP) team, led all scorers with 2 goals and was selected the Most Valuable Player of his Division. Popp commented afterwards, "I played really well today. I'm very happy".

PREP's other representative, Vinny Carbone (Rolling Meadows), also contributed by recording the first tally of the game.

Other area schools with players selected for the Metro Central Team include: Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Carmel, Conant, Crystal Lake, Fremd, Hersey, Hoffman, Libertyville, Latin, Maine, Schaumburg and Wheeling. The Metro West Team was made up of players from West Suburban High Schools.

Game two, featuring the remaining All Stars from each division, including PREP's Jake Wachlin (Rolling Meadows), will be held at noon on Sunday, January 29th at the 7 Bridges Ice Arena in Woodridge.
