Six people were transported to hospitals with varying degrees of injuries after a construction truck struck a car and a pick-up truck before colliding with a semi on Route 30 near Plainfield, police said.
Illinois State Police Trooper R. Caves said the driver of a construction truck crossed the center line of Route 30 near Heggs Road around 6:30 p.m. and struck two vehicles before colliding with a semi-truck, which then caught on fire.
The driver of the construction truck was sent to Chicago Loyola Hospital in critical condition after he was extricated from his vehicle that had also caught on fire, said Plainfield Fire Chief Assistant Jon Stratton.
The semi truck driver and one person in the pick-up truck were transported to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora in critical condition, two others in the pick-up truck were transported in moderate condition and one driver of a sedan was transported to Rush Copley in fair condition, Stratton said.
Route 30 between Heggs Road and 111th Street remained closed at 9 p.m. Monday. Ambulances and firefighters from several jurisdictions, including Oswego, also responded to the scene.
Caves said Illinois State Police are investigating the accident.
