Washington Elementary chess tournament

About 50 students gathered Friday at Washington Elementary School in Park Ridge to compete in the second and final chess tournament of the school year.

At Washington, more than 100 students meet with instructors from CHESS-ED once a week during their lunch and recess breaks to practice upright posture, concentration and improve their chess skills. The Chicago-area chess program also works with Carpenter Elementary School and many North Shore schools.

Students were eliminated over four rounds until one winner emerged.
