Maine East sophomores experience Trauma Day at Lutheran General Hospital

Maine East sophomores visited Advocate Lutheran General Hospitals annual trauma day on May 14, and got a chance to see the inner workings of the hospitals critical life-saving procedures and techniques.

Students were able to visit four different stations, including a Flight for Life helicopter and hazardous materials demonstration, emergency department/operating room/intensive care simulations, fatal vision goggle and Wii video distracted driving game and a look into rehabilitation services.

After the activities, students had a chance to hear from 26-year-old McHenry County College student Mike Deibel, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, a collapsed lung and two fractures in his neck in a car crash that resulted from speeding when he was 17 years old. Diebel spoke to the students about taking caution while driving, among other advice.
