Park Ridge Police have scheduled a press conference for Wednesday morning to give an update and discuss the results of their investigation into a recent homicide in the northwest suburb.
Police said Tuesday they had a person of interest in custody connected with the death of a 39-year-old Chicago man found strangled in a commuter parking lot by the Metra tracks last week.
As of early Tuesday, no charges had been filed in the murder.
The conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in Park Ridge City Hall Council Chamber, 5050 Butler Place. Park Ridge Police Commander David Keller and Tom Gadomski, director of the Major Case Assistance Team, will also be on hand.
Park Ridge Police on Tuesday declined to comment further on the matter, saying they are continuing to follow up on a number of leads and work with the MCAT.
Henry W. Nowak, of the 6700 block of North Oshkosh Avenue, was found strangled at 2:18 a.m. Feb. 9 in the parking lot on the 200 block of South Summit Avenue near the Metra tracks. Nowak lived near the Edison Park Metra station, one stop south of the Park Ridge station where he was found that morning.
Authorities said they still don’t have a motive, but are exploring all angles.
“We’re working off a number of theories,” said Cmdr. Lou Jogmen.
Though the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified the body as Henry Mallek, Park Ridge Police said they are using the name on the man’s driver’s license.
