An 18-year-old Park Ridge man will appear in Skokie court Feb. 28 after he was charged with reckless driving for steering his car onto front yards and sidewalks, destroying grass and parkways in a residential area.
Three witnesses allegedly saw Ian F. Omann, of the 400 block of N. Northwest Highway, driving through a front yard on the 200 block of Columbia Avenue, damaging grass and the parkway around 3:20 p.m. Feb. 1, said Cmdr. Lou Jogmen.
Omann then allegedly drove his car around the block and traveled onto the front yards and sidewalks of the 600 and 700 blocks of South Washington Avenue, Jogmen said.
Police were able to get the car’s license plate number based on witness reports and tracked down Omann, who was arrested the next day. No one was injured in the incident.
Omann told police someone in another car shouted something at him and the passenger in his vehicle, prompting him to drive around the block looking for the other driver when he left the roadway.
He was also charged with failure to report an accident, improper overtaking on right, improper lane usage and damage to city property for driving over the parkways. He was assigned a $2,000 bond.
