The results of an autopsy for a partially-decomposed body found in a wooded area in Park Ridge have been delayed until next week due to the condition of the body, according to authorities and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Lt. Duane Mellema said the body of a heavy-set man was found slumped over a log Thursday before 3 p.m. by a man walking his dog in the woods off of Riverside Drive and Oakton Street. The results won’t be ready until Monday or Tuesday, he said.
Though the body was not skeletonized, the face and hands were “significantly decomposed,” making it impossible for police to identify him, Mellema added. DNA and dental records will likely be used to determine his identity, police said.
The body was found 50 to 100 yards off of Riverside Drive in the densely wooded area, which is not too far from the Oakton Golf Range. On Friday, a portion of the woods was marked off with yellow tape as a squad car sat nearby.
Park Ridge Authorities are waiting on the results to further their investigation. Police are unsure how and when the man died and don’t know his age, though he is believed to be in his 40s, according to the medical examiner’s office.
“When it’s available and appropriate, we’ll release that information,” Mellema said.
