This morning’s storms knocked out power in several parts of Park Ridge, making multiple streets impassable because of downed power lines and fallen tree limbs, officials said.
An Everbridge alert notifying residents of the damage was sent after heavy rains, hail and gusts as fast as 75 mph hit the Chicagoland area. About 450 ComEd crews are trying to restore power to about 600,000 ComEd customers across the metropolitan area, which could take multiple days, Park Ridge officials said.
The northwest part of the the city was hit particularly bad, said Park Ridge Police Cmdr. Lou Jogmen, who called the damage “comparable” to the June 22 storm. He added the city is considering opening a cooling center, though final details are still being hammered out.
Jogmen said the police department is fielding multiple phone calls about the storm and at least one tree toppled a home.
All Park Ridge Park District facilities except South Park are closed because of power outages, the alert stated. Power is also out at the police department and city hall.
Officials are asking residents to not run generators inside their homes or attached garages.
