District 218 to host Southland Model Railroad Show

District 218 will host its eighth annual Southland Model Railroad Show on Saturday and Sunday, September 25 and 26.

Richards High School, located at 10601 S. Central Avenue in Oak Lawn, will serve as the site of the event both days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for senior citizens 65 and older, and free for children under age 12.  Parking is free.

The train show includes many model train displays and operating layouts, Lego trains, and a children’s activities area. 

Exhibitors include Blackhawk Chapter NRHS, Bolingbrook Model Railroad Club, British Train Society, Calumet Division C.A.S.G., Independent Hi-Railers Midwest Division, Heritage N-Track, Hi-Rail Modular Club, Kane County Model RR Club, L.G.B. Model R.R. Club of Chicago, Lionel Modular Train Club Inc., Midwest Pioneer Model RR Club, NW Society of Model Engineers, North Shore and Western, Swallow Cliff Model RR, Treelady Trees, BSA Venture Crew 57 (Boy Scouts), Will County Model RR, Northern Illinois Lego Train Club, and Northwest Trainmasters.

Little Obie, a scale model of a Canadian National Railway train featuring a locomotive, flatcar and caboose, will be featured.  Little Obie educates children about rail safety.

The event will feature safety demonstrations and information from the Illinois State Police and Chicago Ridge Fire Safety House.
