Residents at Sedgebrook in Lincolnshire continue proving the maxim, ‘it’s better to give than receive.’
When the resident-led Care and Share Committee announced the school kit drive in August, members hoped their friends and neighbors at the retirement community would warmly embrace the project.
They did, and that meant Sedgebrook donated a great quantity of school supplies to WINGS in Palatine for school children of client families. WINGS helps homeless and abused women and children in the north and northwest suburbs with services for shelter, education, guidance and support.
“The response was great and we filled 10 cartons with nearly 1,800 packages and individual school supply items,” said committee member June Lauter.
“Residents most generously donated reams of notebook paper, folders, writing and craft supplies,” she added. “They also donated calculators, flash drives, dictionaries, water bottles and even lunch boxes. We were so glad to provide students with items they really want and can use.”
