Despite these challenging economic times, the total U.S. pet industry is estimated at $47.7 billion dollars this year, according to the American Pet Products Association Inc. And of that number an estimated $3.45 billion will be spend on grooming and boarding this year. But doggie parents value the peace of mind that comes with knowing your four-legged friend is well cared for when theyre on vacation.

OursWrigley Bear, a year-and-a-half year old Vizsla, can be a handful, and weve learned the hard way that all pet sitters are not created equal. My sister-in-law will spend the weekend at our house, and his actual doggie mom, brother (a show dog, none the less) and uncle actually live in Palatine. I cant imagine the chaos of having four Vizslas, but after a weekend there, he always comes home tired.

But asking anyone to keep your pet for more than two nights is too much in my opinion. So, when we headed to Vegas a few weeks ago, we decided he was going to the doggie hotel. While he only occasionally goes to doggie daycare now, my favorite place is Mount Prospects www.dogplaydaycare.com/. Its doggie cam proved way to distracting to watch in either of our offices, but it was so cool to watch its staff actually play with him. At the check-in desk, an hour-by-hour schedule is even posted. And, the lobby area is always clean and tidy.

According to its Web site, Dog Play Day Care is a full-service dog day care facility complete with doggie-taxi pick-up service, overnight stays / boarding, baths, private walks, high-quality all-natural pet foods and products, nutritional snacks, and treats. … Once you have your temperament/behavioral review and your records up-to-date and on file, you are always welcome for day care; with no appointment necessary. Just come on in. Never think for a moment that we can’t help. We have a 6000 square foot professionally equipped facility, with a fully-trained and knowledgeable staff. We are here for your convenience.

Now this isnt an infomercialbut we can attest to the peace of mind that goes with knowing your four-legged friend is being take of by someone who truly cares. They care so muchin factthe Wrigley Bear (with barking and howling) reminded his overnight caregiver that he sleeps with humans, not alone. And sure enough, after I picked up his doggie hotel stay report card, its owner Adam informed that Wrigley Bear worked his way to actually sleeping beside his overnight caregiver.

This experience was truly incredible, and Wrigley Bear came home so doggone tired that it took him three days to fully recovery from all his fun. And the same could be said for us.
