Palatine man gets 10 years in prison for shooting at home of ex’s new boyfriend

A Cook County judge sentenced a Palatine man to 10 years in prison Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to being an armed, habitual offender and to aggravated discharge of a firearm for shooting at the home of his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.

Judge Kay Hanlon sentenced Dirk Hugo, 38, of the 800 block of Capri Drive, to 10 years on each count with the sentences to be served concurrently.

Prosecutors said Hugo was identified as the man who fired shots in the 1200 block of Northwest Highway Feb. 7, 2011, and fled. Police saw Hugo a few days later, gave chase and arrested him after he struck four vehicles and then took off on foot to his parents’ home in the 1500 block of Harvard Ave. in Arlington Heights, prosecutors said.

Police found a .357 revolver used in the shooting in the home, prosecutors said. said.

In 1999, Hugo was sentenced to four years for aggravated battery, according to court records. In 2001 he was sentenced to four years for dealing drugs, and in 2006 he was sentenced seven years for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
