Bus crashes into Orland school causing building damage

A school bus from Central Junior High School crashed into Orland Junior High School around 5 p.m. Thursday, but no injuries were reported.

The bus crashed through a brick wall into a science classroom, causing water damage in addition to a hole in the front of the building, said Bridget McGuiggan, spokeswoman for Orland School District 135. The bus was on site for a volleyball game.

No students were on the bus at the time, and the driver was not injured, McGuiggan said. The driver said the accelerator pedal stuck and would not release, she said.

Maintenance crews were working to repair the hole Thursday evening, but the district will evaluate a permanent fix on Friday, she said. Water to the room was shut off immediately.

McGuiggan said Orland Park Police are investigating the accident. Police did not immediately return calls.
