If you’ve had the good fortune to cross paths with Nancy Leavy, then you know all about her laser-like focus—whether it’s supporting schools, housing or any variety of causes that benefit Oak Park and its surrounding communities.
And through the service she has provided to the many individuals, couples and families during times of transition, Leavy has garnered a top reputation as a Realtor in the region as well.
Since her 1984 start in the industry, Leavy has seen numerous changes in various facets of the practice. But what has not changed is Leavy’s zest for getting the job done for clients.
After graduating from Loyola University Chicago—where she earned a debate scholarship and was an English major— Leavy moved to Oak Park in 1969. In 1975, she began a nine-year tenure as an English and Social Studies teacher before shifting into real estate.
It immediately represented a natural outgrowth of her academic, professional and social bents.
“To me, selling Oak Park has always been a perfect fit for me,” she says. “I love introducing the village to new people.”
When she joined BHG Real Estate/Gloor Realty in November 2011, Leavy felt right at home.
“I feel renewed and energized,” Leavy says. “It’s great to be associated with a local, family-owned firm that is committed to the community on so many levels and offers such great staff support.”
Leavy has served clients in a variety of nearby communities as well, including Forest Park, River Forest, Elmwood Park and Berwyn. Her passion extends well beyond the village’s borders in other ways as well, stoked on by a voracious reading habit—she’s especially ambitious when it comes to maintaining nearly a dozen magazine subscriptions.
She has traveled to all but a few of the nation’s 50 states, with North Dakota and Rhode Island yet to be checked off her list. Along with her husband, Jack, she is an increasingly passionate international traveler as well, with plans afoot to travel to Turkey and Italy later this year.
No matter where she travels, though, she’s always excited to settle back into the ebb and flow of life in and around Oak Park. Her two daughters, Liz and Ann Marie, have been adults for years, though that hasn’t stopped Leavy from devoting much of her free time to helping other families.
Perhaps most notably, from 1995 to 2003 she served on the board of District 200, covering Oak Park and River Forest High School.
She has also volunteered on a range of housing and education issues in the village and in recent years has been an observer of the school board on which she formerly served. In that role, she writes summaries of meetings for fellow League of Women Voters members.
When meeting with individuals and families in search of their next home—or looking to move on from their existing home— Leavy has a clear service philosophy: “It’s my goal to make them the best educated buyer or seller possible,” she says. “I want people to feel empowered by knowledge.”
Consequently, Leavy doesn’t shy away from a flurry of activity on behalf of clients who seek that level of service, sometimes immersing herself in a full day of showing homes in a variety of neighborhoods with a spectrum of other variables.
A past director of the Oak Park Area Association of Realtors, Leavy is a Graduate of the Real Estate Institute of Illinois (GRI). Among her community involvement is longstanding active membership with the Village Managers Association.
In addition to her husband and daughters, she has two grandsons, Orlando and Matthew.
