Dominican University’s Becky Christofferson has been named to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week, the national website announced on Friday afternoon. Christofferson, the Stars’ leading scorer on the season, averaged 28.5 points per game in a pair of Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) victories last week.

“While Becky is a good outside shooter,” said Michael Lane, the Stars’ head coach, “she doesn’t just settle for jump shots. She scores one’s, two’s and three’s which fits into our offensive philosophy. She can attack the basket, which is reflected in her number of free throw attempts and also has a good mid-range game.”

Last Saturday, Christofferson dropped a season-high 33 points to lead the Stars past the Lakeland College Muskies in a key road victory. Earlier last week, Christofferson scored a game-high 24 points in helping Dominican to knock off its neighborhood rival, the Concordia Chicago Cougars, for just the second time under Lane. On the week, Christofferson shot over 66 percent from the field, going 22-for-34 in the two wins, including shooting at a 7-for-15 clip from behind the three-point stripe. In addition, the Stars’ 5’7 junior guard made a team-high ten trips to the free throw line and grabbed 11 rebounds on the week.

“She is a complete player,” commented Lane about Christofferson. “She doesn’t just score for us; she’s had a number of major defensive assignments and rebounds the basketball for us as well.”

Christofferson and the Stars are now 8-1, the best start to a season for the Stars in over 15 years, and a perfect 4-0 in NAC play. On Saturday, Dominican will look to push its current win streak to nine games as they host the Maranatha Baptist Bible College Crusaders. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in the Stars’ Igini Sports Forum.

The week three team of the week was rounded out by Brooklyn College’s Ariel Smith (Sr., G), Ripon College’s Emily Meyer (Sr., F), Carleton College’s Emma Purfeest (Fr., F) and Morrisville State College’s Nijah Townsend (Fr., C).
