Studio Walk – as a part of ArtRageous! Oak Park

1284490605_ace0.jpg

The public is invited to enter the unique environs in which 24 Oak Park artists hone their skills and create their works of art. Studio Walk participants can meet the artists, learn what motivates them and experience how they share their inspiration.

A variety of mediums will be featured on the October 9th Studio Walk, including ceramics, sculpture, glass, painting, fiber and more! For example, meet Bryan Northup, owner of biolum glass studio, who creates fused glass jewelry, original designs for stained glass panels, glass mosaics, lighting, kiln formed tableware and functional green forms made from recycled bottle glass.

Im looking forward to sharing my passion for glass during the Studio Walk. When working with glass there is always a new frontier to explore. The element of danger is contrasted with the final results – delicate, jewel bright pieces that illuminate any space, said Northup.

Another participant, Nancy Gardner, creates her distinctive hand-built earthenware pottery in her Oak Park studio, located in the garden behind her home. Dancer Diane VanDerhei, owner of INTUIT Dance, creates art of a more transitory nature, helping students to develop their choreographic voice. A complete listing of the 24 participating studios is below.

Following the walk, there will be an Ice Cream Social at the Oak Park Art League (720 Chicago Ave, Oak Park, IL) on Saturday, October 9th from 7:00-9:00 PM. The Social is put on in partnership with Oak Park Public Library, and is just one of many activities celebrating Mark Twain (see http://www.oppl.org/twain/index.htm for a full schedule). Attendees will have the opportunity to have a tasty treat and to enter a raffle with prizes donated by the participating Studio Walk artists! Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Ice Cream Social, or are earned, one for each studio visited during the Studio Walk.

For a preview of the walk, Marion Street Gallery (115 N Marion St, Oak Park, IL 60301 – www.marionstreetgallery.com) will host a Live Gallery show which will include a sample of work from each artist. The show will run Friday, September 17, to Monday, October 11, 2010.
